The local public health unit is reporting 11 new cases of COVID-19 in the region today. None of those cases are from Orillia, Ramara, Severn or Oro-Medonte Township.<\/p>\n

There are three more confirmed cases in residents at Owen Hill Care Community, including two women in their 80s and one woman in her 90s.<\/p>\n

A resident living at Bradford Valley Care Community has died. The\u00a0woman in her 90s died on May 11, and she is the 12th resident at the facility to die as a result of the outbreak.<\/p>\n

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) is also reporting two cases in youth, with a case in a boy under 10 from Bradford West Gwillimbury and a boy between 10 and 19 from Barrie. Both are ruled close contact transmission.<\/p>\n

There are two staff from long-term care facilities in outbreak among today\u2019s cases, including a woman in her 30s from New Tecumseth and a woman in her 50s from Bradford West-Gwillimbury. The health unit confirmed both women work at facilities outside of the Simcoe-Muskoka region.<\/p>\n

There are two more community-acquired cases out of Barrie including a man and a woman in their 20s.<\/p>\n

One of the new cases is a Clearview woman in her 30s, who is believed to have contracted the virus through close contact.<\/p>\n

The highest occurrence of cases is in people aged 45 to 64 years old (117 cases) followed by those aged 18 to 34 years old (92).<\/p>\n

There are now 12 people from the region hospitalized with COVID-19.<\/p>\n

SMDHU is reporting current COVID-19 outbreaks at five long-term care facilities, four of which are in Simcoe County.<\/p>\n

Those homes include Bradford Valley Care Community, Owen Hill Care Community (Barrie), Bayview Retirement Home Waubaushene), Whispering Pines Retirement Residence (Barrie) and Muskoka Traditions (Huntsville).<\/p>\n

As of yesterday, Dr. Charles Gardner, medical officer of health for the health unit, confirmed there have been a total of 15 staff and 24 residents at Owen Hill confirmed positive for COVID-19. As of today, six residents have died, and another three residents have tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total cases in residents to 27.<\/p>\n

Gardner also reported yesterday there have been 35 residents and 11 staff confirmed positive for COVID-19 in Bradford Valley. As of today, 12 residents have died.<\/p>\n

According to the update posted today, there have been a total of 69 cases confirmed in long-term care residents in the region, and 36 cases in staff working at long-term care facilities. It is unknown if they contracted the virus through work or via community transmission.<\/p>\n

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed 390 cases of COVID-19 in the Simcoe-Muskoka region, including 229 recoveries and 31 deaths.<\/p>\n

The breakdown of cases in each municipality is as follows:<\/p>\n

Barrie (132 cases, 67 recoveries, 9 deaths, 1 in hospital), Bradford West Gwillimbury (88 cases, 56 recoveries, 12 deaths, 2 in hospital), New Tecumseth (32 cases, 19 recoveries, 2 in hospital, one death), Orillia (15 cases, 11 recoveries, 2 deaths), Collingwood (11 cases, 8 recoveries, 2 in hospital), Innisfil (29 cases, 14 recoveries, 1 in hospital), Springwater (6 cases, 4 recoveries, 1 death), Midland (6 cases, all recovered), Wasaga Beach (11 cases, 6 recoveries, 1 death), Oro-Medonte (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 2 deaths, 1 in hospital), Adjala-Tosorontio (7 cases, all recovered), Clearview (7 cases, 2 recoveries, one death), Essa (7 cases, 5 recoveries, 1 death), Ramara (5 cases, 2 recoveries), Tiny (2 cases, all recovered), Tay (4 cases, 1 in hospital), Penetanguishene (2 cases, all recovered), and Severn (3 cases, 1 recovered) for a total of 372 cases in Simcoe County, including 214 recoveries and 11 hospitalizations.<\/p>\n

There are also 18 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka, and 15 have recovered, one person from Muskoka Lakes has died.<\/p>\n

The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 64 cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 142.9 cases per 100,000 population.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
