{"id":14507,"date":"2020-05-12T17:30:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-12T21:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/airpurifierspecialist.com\/store\/?p=14507"},"modified":"2020-05-17T23:33:36","modified_gmt":"2020-05-18T03:33:36","slug":"sixth-resident-death-at-owen-hill-care-community-attributed-to-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/airpurifierspecialist.com\/store\/sixth-resident-death-at-owen-hill-care-community-attributed-to-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Sixth resident death at Owen Hill Care Community attributed to COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-words=\"278\" id=\"details-body\" itemprop=\"articleBody\">\n<p>Six residents have now died and there have been\u00a039 positive cases of COVID-19 at Owen Hill Care Community in\u00a0downtown Barrie.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0most recent death is a man in his 80s, who died Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On a conference call with local media Tuesday,\u00a0Dr. Charles Gardner, medical officer of health for the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit,\u00a0said the positive cases include 15 staff members and 24 residents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Owen Hill is a 57-bed facility, according to the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care.<\/p>\n<p>Gardner said the virus can &#8220;fairly easily&#8221; get into a long-term care facility and be extremely dangerous to residents. He said the mortality rate is between\u00a020 and 30 per cent in such facilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>COVID-19 can be infectitous up to 48 hours before a person shows any symptoms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sienna Senior Living, which operates Owen Hill Care Community, has issued a statement on the situation at the Owen Street facility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our highest priority is protecting the safety of our residents and team,&#8221; the statement said.\u00a0&#8220;We continue to implement stringent infection prevention and control protocols and have appropriate supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) to safeguard our team, in accordance with provincial directives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As of Monday, one resident has recovered and is now considered clear of COVID-19, the statement added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Around one-quarter of all COVID-19 cases in Simcoe-Muskoka region\u00a0are related to outbreaks in long-term care facilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The statement from Sienna Senior\u00a0Living says staff at Owen Hill are working closely with public health officials.
