(Justin Tang\/Canadian Press)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<p>The number of people who have recovered\u00a0from COVID-19 in Ottawa continues to outpace\u00a0the number of new infections, public health officials said Monday.<\/p>\n<p>In its latest report, Ottawa Public Health\u00a0(OPH) says 90 more people have been cleared to leave isolation, while only 23 new cases have been confirmed. It&#8217;s the fourth consecutive report in which\u00a0new recoveries surpassed new infections.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, there have been 10\u00a0more deaths from the respiratory illness since the health agency&#8217;s last report.<\/p>\n<p>The numbers represent recent cases confirmed and logged by OPH in the last 24 hours, and don&#8217;t necessarily reflect how many contracted or died from COVID-19 in that period.<\/p>\n<p>According to OPH, there are currently 366 active cases in Ottawa, and\u00a01,139 people have now\u00a0recovered. There have been 171 deaths, about 90 per cent of them in long-term care homes and similar institutions.<\/p>\n<p>There are likely more undiagnosed cases in the community, but the numbers could rise as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/ottawa\/ottawa-public-health-update-friday-1.5552658\"><u>testing criteria are gradually expanded<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, new projections from <a href=\"https:\/\/613covid.ca\/\">a partnership between OPH, The Ottawa Hospital and the\u00a0University of Ottawa<\/a>\u00a0suggest a second peak can be avoided if Ottawans\u00a0keep up their current level of physical distancing.<\/p>\n<p>There are currently\u00a022 patients in hospital, including three in the ICU. That&#8217;s a considerable improvement from mid-April when\u00a0as many as 43 people were in hospital, 18 of them\u00a0in intensive care.<\/p>\n<h2>63% recovery rate across region<\/h2>\n<p>Across eastern Ontario and western Quebec, there have been more than 2,375 confirmed cases of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Health units in the region report a total of\u00a01,635, or about 63 per cent of all confirmed cases, have recovered.<\/p>\n<p>Outside Ottawa, 64 deaths in the region have been linked to COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/ottawa\/ottawa-gatineau-covid19-numbers-stats-1.5564661\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The number of people who have recovered\u00a0from COVID-19 in Ottawa continues to outpace\u00a0the number of new infections, public health officials said Monday.A stuffed moose wearing a mask sits in front of a home in Ottawa&#8217;s Glebe neighbourhood on May 10, 2020.
