REGINA —
\n\tSaskatchewan has surpassed 500 COVID-19 cases after announcing 25 new cases on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe province now sits at 512 cases. Of those cases, 194 are considered active.<\/p>\n

\n\tTwo more people have recovered\u00a0 from the virus, for a provincial total of 312.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to the province, 22 of the new cases are in La Loche. There are two other new cases in the far north and one in Saskatoon.<\/p>\n

\n\t‘Very serious’ outbreak in the far north<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe outbreak in the far north continues to be very serious for this province,\u201d Moe said in his daily update on the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

\n\t\"Sask<\/img><\/p>\n

\n\tThe far north has the most active cases in the province with 138. The north has 36 active cases.<\/p>\n

\n\tMoe said the government is monitoring the situation in the far north closely and making sure there are supports in place.<\/p>\n

\n\tDr. Saqib Shahab agreed the cases in the far north are \u201cconcerning.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cApart from the far north and the north, things are pretty quiet in the rest of Saskatchewan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tShahab said the province will continue with its plan to reopen the economy outside of La Loche and Lloydminster.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe effective reproductive number, which looks at how many people are infected from one person who has tested positive for the virus, is currently sitting around 1. However, Shahab says that number is rising because of the localized outbreaks.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhenever we get a localized outbreak in a community or hospital or long-term care facility, we have to understand that\u2019s a local outbreak, we have to look at the reproductive rate with that in mind,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tShahab also said the numbers in La Loche will likely to continue to increase as cases are identified from aggressive testing and contact tracing in the area.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhile the case numbers are alarming, they are being generated through very active findings,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tCases are also increasing in people in the 20 to 49 age range due to transmission in younger age groups in La Loche.<\/p>\n

\n\tMost cases have been relatively mild and people have been able to self-isolate at home, Shahab said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThere are currently 13 people in hospital \u2014 three receiving inpatient care and four in the ICU.<\/p>\n

\n\tThere are a total of 163 cases in Saskatoon, 152 in the far north, 95 in the north, 76 in Regina, 15 in the south and 11 in the central region.<\/p>\n

\n\tThere are 17 active cases in Saskatoon and three in Regina. Both the south and central regions have no active cases.<\/p>\n

\n\t\"Sask<\/img><\/p>\n

\n\tOutbreak at Meadow Lake Hospital<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tThe Saskatchewan Health Authority declared an outbreak at the Meadow Lake Hospital<\/a> due to a confirmed case in a staff member. The case is linked to community transmission.<\/p>\n

\n\tNo patients have shown any COVID-19 symptoms.<\/p>\n

\n\tChanges to northern travel restrictions<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tThe province says Stony Rapids and La Ronge are now included in a public health order restricting non-essential travel to northern Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe province says the order is in place to ensure only essential travellers are in the north to try and prevent the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\n\tStill planning for fall election<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tPremier Scott Moe says the province should still be prepared to head to the polls in the fall.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are preparing for an election on Oct. 26 in Saskatchewan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe premier said the chief electoral officer will be workmen to make sure the election can run safely amid the pandemic.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe are entering a time of a new normal,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe highlighted physical distancing guidelines for residents and businesses and said those same principles will be used for the upcoming provincial election.<\/p>\n

\n\tMoe also said he has no current plans to bring back the legislative assembly at this time.<\/p>\n

\n\tCOVID-19 cases in Sask.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tThere are 139 cases from travelling, 204 from community contacts, 45 with no known exposure and 124 currently under investigation.<\/p>\n

\n\tSixty-six cases are in people under the age of 19. There are also 182 cases in people between the age of 20 and 39, 159 between 40 and 59, 90 between 60 and 79 and 15 over the age of 80.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe cases are half men and half women.<\/p>\n

\n\tSix people have died so far in Saskatchewan from COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\n\tTo date, the province has performed 33,591 COVID-19 tests.<\/p>\n
