\n\tEvery day, public health officials update the number of COVID-19 cases in Waterloo Region. Here’s a look at some of the trends in those numbers.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs of May 1, Region of Waterloo Public Health officials have reported<\/a> a total of 773 confirmed cases of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\n\tThat\u2019s 96 more cases since April 25, a one week span.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis week started with a spike: 33 new cases were reported on Sunday, April 26, bringing the region’s total to 677 cases at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\tThen there was a drop on Monday, with only six new cases reported.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe rest of the week saw an average of 22.5 cases added per day.<\/p>\n

\n\tNEW CASES IN WATERLOO REGION BY REPORTED DATE (April 26 \u2013 May 1)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tSince the first case was confirmed in Waterloo Region on March 4, the overall trend shows several spikes in the number of new cases of COVID-19. But the data also shows that, over the past three weeks, the average number of new cases per day is trending downward.<\/p>\n

\n\tFor the period between April 11 and 17, regional officials were confirming an average of 31 new cases per day. That decreased to an average of 23 new cases per day for the week of April 18.<\/p>\n

\n\tFrom April 25 to May 1, the region reported an average of 22.5 new cases per day.<\/p>\n

\n\tNEW CASES IN WATERLOO REGION BY REPORTED DATE (Feb. 28 \u2013 May 1)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tAnother important piece of data is the number of recovered cases.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile 96 new cases were confirmed this week, another 68 were resolved.<\/p>\n

\n\tIf the number of deaths and the number of recovered cases are subtracted from the overall total, it gives a clearer picture of how many cases of COVID-19 are active.<\/p>\n

\n\tThere are currently 773 confirmed cases, 316 of which are resolved, and 72 deaths.<\/p>\n

\n\tThat means the number of active cases in Waterloo Region is currently 385, or 49% of the cumulative total.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe net number of active cases increased by 11 between April 25 and May 1.<\/p>\n

\n\tACTIVE CASES IN WATERLOO REGION<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\tElsewhere in our coverage area, health officials have reported more resolved cases than active ones.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Huron-Perth, only eight cases are still considered active. Of the 47 reported cases, 34 are resolved, and there have been five deaths.<\/p>\n

\n\tBrant County reports 70 of its 96 cases are resolved and three are fatal. There are 23 active cases.<\/p>\n

\n\tFifty-five per cent of the 281 cases in Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph are still active.<\/p>\n

\n\tOf the 194 cases in Haldimand-Norfolk, 59 per cent of them remain active.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
