{"id":12748,"date":"2020-04-24T18:21:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-24T22:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/airpurifierspecialist.com\/store\/?p=12748"},"modified":"2020-05-19T20:53:58","modified_gmt":"2020-05-20T00:53:58","slug":"still-on-the-upswing-24-new-covid-19-cases-6-more-deaths-in-waterloo-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/airpurifierspecialist.com\/store\/still-on-the-upswing-24-new-covid-19-cases-6-more-deaths-in-waterloo-region\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Still on the upswing&#8217;: 24 new COVID-19 cases, 6 more deaths in Waterloo Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>KITCHENER  &#8212;<br \/>\n\tThere were six new deaths from COVID-19 in Waterloo Region in new numbers released on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regionofwaterloo.ca\/en\/health-and-wellness\/positive-cases-in-waterloo-region.aspx\">region&#8217;s website<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAll of the new deaths are from residents over the age of 70 in long-term care or retirement homes in Kitchener, including one at Victoria Place Retirement Residence and five at Forest Heights Long Term Care .<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFriday&#8217;s numbers show that 118 residents and 45 staff have tested positive for COVID-19 at Forest Heights, the hardest hit facility in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRepresentatives from there say 23 residents have been transffered out of the facility to creat more space and seperation for those still inside.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe total number of people in the region who have died from the virus now stands at 45.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAccording to the update, there are also 24 new confirmed cases reported as of Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThat means there are now a total of 604 confirmed cases in Waterloo Region, up from the 582 reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThere are also now 216 resolved cases in the region, up from 199 resolved cases reported on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe number of active outbreaks at long-term care homes and retirement homes has dropped to 10.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&#8220;Very sadly I expect to see an increase in these settings going forward,&#8221; said Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, Medical Officer of Health for Region of Waterloo.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tShe adds that some of the new deaths were confirmed to linked to the virus through posthumous testing, which she expects will reveal more cases and outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&#8220;This is due to the fact that in these settings we are testing people who have passed away even when they hae previously tested negative,&#8221; said Wang. &#8220;I think we&#8217;re still on the upswing of the situation in long term care and retirement homes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAs of Thursday, the outbreak at The Village at University Gates in Waterloo was declared over.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThere have been a total of 13,519 positive cases of COVID-19 <a href=\"https:\/\/toronto.ctvnews.ca\/here-s-what-we-know-about-ontario-s-13-519-cases-of-covid-19-1.4834821\">reported in Ontario thus far.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tThere are currently 763 COVID-19 deaths in Ontario, while 7,087 others have recovered.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kitchener.ctvnews.ca\/still-on-the-upswing-24-new-covid-19-cases-6-more-deaths-in-waterloo-region-1.4910212\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KITCHENER &#8212; There were six new deaths from COVID-19 in Waterloo Region in new numbers released on the region&#8217;s website on Friday.
