The death toll associated with COVID-19 oubreaks in York\u00a0Region continued\u00a0its steady\u00a0increase to 40 in total today, with the deaths of two residents of an Aurora long-term care home, and another resident of Participation House in Markham.<\/p>\n

A 73-year-old woman and an 87-year woman both died today, April 23, at Chartwell Aurora Long-term Care Residence, just over a\u00a0week after testing positive.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Three residents have now died of COVID-19 at the Aurora facility, including\u00a0an\u00a084-year-old woman who passed away Sunday, April 19.<\/p>\n

A 70-year-old Markham man died yesterday, April 22, at Markham-Stouffville Hospital. He is the third death\u00a0at\u00a0Participation House, where 40 residents and 31 health-care workers have confirmed cases of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Institutional outbreaks<\/a>, which span the region,\u00a0have increased to\u00a035, with addition of New Leaf The Maples in East Gwillimbury.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Eleven more residents, totalling\u00a0275, at long-term care and group homes in York Region have COVID-19, and 17 more health-care workers (not all of whom live in York Region) totalling 218.<\/p>\n

At least 348 of York Region’s COVID-19 cases \u2014 27 per cent, the largest segment \u2015 were acquired in an institutional outbreak.<\/p>\n

Newmarket continues to see\u00a0an increase\u00a0outbreak cases<\/a>, at 72\u00a0today \u2014 58 per cent of its cases.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Five more confirmed COVID-19 cases bring Newmarket’s total cases to 125.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With 33 new cases yesterday \u2014 one of smallest daily increases in weeks \u2014 York Region has 1,278 confirmed cases of COVID-19\u00a0and 68 COVID-19 related fatalities in total.<\/p>\n

Resolved cases <\/a>continue to rapidly increase, with 71 more cases today bringing the total to 409, or\u00a032 per cent.<\/p>\n

In Newmarket, one more case is resolved, now 24 of\u00a0125\u00a0cases.<\/p>\n

Of 73 infected health-care workers: eight are in Newmarket; two\u00a0in Aurora, three in Whitchurch-Stouffville; six\u00a0in Richmond Hill, 21\u00a0in Vaughan; and 33\u00a0in Markham.<\/p>\n
