Tony Caldwell\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/postmediaottawacitizen2.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/ottweatherapril18.jpg?quality=5&#038;strip=all&#038;w=100\" width=\"1000\"><\/img><\/span><figcaption><span>An unidentified couple walk near Dow\u2019s Lake and in front of a sign in praise of front-line health-care workers on Friday.<\/span> <span>Tony Caldwell<\/span>\/<span>Postmedia<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAn increase in testing might contribute, in part, to the increase in newly identified cases,\u201d Ottawa Public Health said.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<section>\n<p>Among those recently diagnosed is a staff member at the Perley and Rideau Veterans\u2019 Health Centre, the second there to test positive in as many days.<\/p>\n<p>OC Transpo reported Thursday afternoon that one of its drivers also tested positive for COVID-19, the third driver and fifth employee of the agency to so far do so.<\/p>\n<p>Of 37 COVID-19 patients currently in hospital in Ottawa, 13 are in intensive care, down from 43 hospitalized patients and 17 ICU patients as of Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, 42 per cent of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ottawa have been resolved, with many patients\u2019 symptoms clearing up and isolation no longer required.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<section>\n<h2>Article content continued<\/h2>\n<p>Etches also praised Ottawa residents for their resiliency in maintaining physical distancing and other measures to help limit the spread of COVID-19. \u201c<span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span>There would be more cases of COVID-19 in our community had everyone not done their part over the past month,\u201d she said. \u201c<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span>Please keep up this hard work over\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span>the next stretch of time<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Thank you again for all the actions you are taking as a community \u2014 these actions<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">are saving lives<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Quebec health officials reported the first COVID-19 death in the Outaouais on Friday. No additional details were released.<\/p>\n<p>The Centre int\u00e9gr\u00e9 de sant\u00e9 et de services sociaux de l\u2019Outaouais reported there had been 192 cases in the region so far, with 149 of those cases in the city of Gatineau, 25 in MRC de Papineau, 12 in MRC des Collines-de-l\u2019Outaouais and five or less in each of MRC de la Vall\u00e9e-de-la-Gatineau and MRC du Pontiac. As of Friday, there were nine hospitalizations, including four people in intensive care.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<section>\n<p>The National Capital Commission, meanwhile, announced Friday that it would launch a pilot project closing the Queen Elizabeth Driveway between Laurier and Fifth avenues to motor vehicles daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., starting Saturday and running through April 26 \u201cto enable physical distancing for residents who live in the dense surrounding areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><span><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"OTTAWA --April 17, 2020.
