Google has released a <a data-analytics-module=\"body_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/04\/02\/google-launches-social-distancing-tracking-site-using-location-data.html\">similar tool<\/a> using Google Maps and Android data, and Facebook has developed a <a data-analytics-module=\"body_link\" href=\"https:\/\/dataforgood.fb.com\/tools\/disease-prevention-maps\/\">movement tool<\/a> that it makes available only to health agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Apple&#8217;s mobility tracker lets you choose a location and see how well people there are social distancing. Hundreds of millions of people across the globe have been advised by governments to stay home to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The tool complements a new <a data-analytics-module=\"body_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/apple-google-tracking-coronavirus-contact-tracing-how-it-works-2020-4\">contact-tracing technology<\/a> pioneered by Apple and Google that will use Bluetooth on smartphones to alert people when they&#8217;ve come in contact with someone with COVID-19 \u2014 however, that technology won&#8217;t be available for
