Their plan includes temporary hospitals in hotels or convention centres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWork is still underway to secure alternative space and details about the location will be shared when available,\u201d HHS said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>No charges were laid over the long weekend under the city\u2019s new physical-distancing bylaw. But visitors to Albion Falls continue to be a problem despite the popular destination being closed with no available parking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know how beautiful it is,\u201d said Paul Johnson, director of Hamilton&#8217;s Emergency Operations Centre. \u201cI know how wonderful it is. Please do not go there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton had 14 new confirmed cases Monday, bringing its total to 256. Of those, 38 have ever been hospitalized and 114 have recovered. <\/p>\n<p>Frank\u2019s No Frills at 675 Rymal Rd. E. temporarily closed its store Monday for deep cleaning after announcing a staff member had tested positive. It\u2019s expected to reopen Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>Employees who may have come into close contact have been advised to self-isolate and public health is investigating. <\/p>\n<p>No Frills contacted shoppers who had visited the grocery store around the employee\u2019s last shift April 9 \u201cout of an abundance of caution\u201d saying it takes the safety of its employees and customers \u201cvery seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"No charges were laid over the long weekend under the city's new physical distancing bylaw. It also has 40 probable cases, including 11 in Burlington. <\/p>\n<p>Halton was up to 11 deaths on April 12 although it has not provided any details yet for the last nine. <\/p>\n<p>Hamilton has now had nine deaths \u2014 all seniors between the ages of 70 and 100.<\/p>\n<p>Four of the deaths have been at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespec.com\/news\/hamilton-region\/2020\/04\/13\/downtown-hamilton-retirement-home-hit-by-covid-19-outbreak-cited-for-dozens-of-violations-since-2018.html\" onclick=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\" oncontextmenu=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\">Cardinal<\/a> and three at an outbreak at Heritage Green Nursing Home. The Stoney Creek long-term care centre has had 11 residents and three staff infected.<\/p>\n<p>There are also outbreaks at five other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespec.com\/news\/hamilton-region\/2020\/04\/13\/we-are-scared-psw-describes-courage-needed-on-the-front-lines-of-covid-19-in-long-term-care.html\" onclick=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\" oncontextmenu=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\">seniors\u2019 homes, <\/a>including one infected staff member each at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas, Chartwell Deerview Crossing Retirement Residence on Rymal Road West and Clarion Nursing Home in Stoney Creek.<\/p>\n<div data-lpos=\"newsletter|get-more-from-the-spec-in-your-inbox\">\n<p>Get more from the Spec in your inbox<\/p>\n<p>Never miss the latest news from the Spec. Sign up for our email newsletters to get the day&#8217;s top stories, your favourite columnists, and much more in your email inbox.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thespec.com\/emails.html?nsrc=article-inline-default\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Sign Up Now<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Two residents have tested positive at Kingsberry Retirement Residence on Limeridge Road East. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all watching and monitoring very closely,\u201d Hamilton\u2019s medical officer of health Dr. Elizabeth Richardson said about the potential rapid spread of the virus in these homes. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have very much put a ring around these institutions in order to protect people,\u201d she said. \u201cBut people do still come and go in terms of the staff who are there or essential visitors &#8230; There is community spread that is occurring out there that any of those people could have contact with while they are outside of the institution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a provincewide problem with Halton having six outbreaks in long-term care centres and retirement homes including Park Avenue Manor in Burlington.<\/p>\n<p>A devastating outbreak at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespec.com\/news\/hamilton-region\/2020\/04\/13\/over-half-of-anson-place-residents-have-covid-19-as-death-toll-hits-13.html\" onclick=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\" oncontextmenu=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\">Anson Place <\/a>in Hagersville has now claimed the lives of 15 residents. More than half of the residents are infected and at least 30 staff in quarantine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the workers were working in two or three different care settings and they inadvertently brought the virus into the homes,\u201d Health Minister Christine Elliott said about the spread in long-term care across Ontario. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe chief medical officer of health has strongly recommended that people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespec.com\/news\/hamilton-region\/2020\/03\/26\/hamilton-long-term-care-workers-in-horrible-position-of-having-to-choose-between-jobs.html\" onclick=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\" oncontextmenu=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\">only work in one facility <\/a>with the hope they will be able to increase their hours,\u201d she said. \u201cFor some people it\u2019s an economic necessity for them to work in two or three homes where they have put together enough part-time hours to make a full-time job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespec.com\/news\/hamilton-region\/2020\/04\/02\/canadian-union-of-public-employees-describes-the-front-lines-of-covid-19-as-absolutely-dire.html\" onclick=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\" oncontextmenu=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\">unions<\/a> and NDP Leader <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespec.com\/news\/hamilton-region\/2020\/04\/08\/nothing-short-of-tragic-says-ndp-leader-about-spread-of-covid-19-in-long-term-care.html\" onclick=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\" oncontextmenu=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\">Andrea Horwath <\/a>have put the blame squarely on the province saying long-standing issues in long-term care such as understaffing, low pay, a lack of full-time jobs and shortages of supplies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespec.com\/news\/hamilton-region\/2020\/04\/13\/dont-go-down-this-road-says-ontario-nurses-association-about-reusing-masks.html\" onclick=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\" oncontextmenu=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\">personal protective equipment (PPE) <\/a>have resulted in tragedy during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thespec.com\/news\/hamilton-region\/2020\/04\/13\/its-a-bad-dream-says-burlington-senior-who-prays-to-hold-her-husband-again-after-they-were-separated-by-covid-19-restrictions.html\" onclick=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\" oncontextmenu=\"theStarLinkClick(event, this)\">COVID-19<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is absolutely a perfect storm headed directly for disaster,\u201d said Candace Rennick, Ontario secretary-treasurer for Canadian Union of Public Employees.<\/p>\n<p>The province says it\u2019s making sure staff who care for those with COVID-19 symptoms don\u2019t also work with well residents.
