Nova Scotia has six more COVID-19 deaths, 15 more cases

25 April 2020 /Posted byBarbara / 535

HALIFAX, N.S. —

Nova Scotia reported six more deaths related to COVID-19 and 15 new cases in a release issued on Saturday.

Five of the deaths occurred at the Northwood Manor long-term care home in Halifax, while the sixth was a man in his 80s in the Western Zone, “with underlying medical conditions,” according to the release. He was not a resident of a nursing home.

“Our province is experiencing a tremendous amount of pain right now. Our thoughts are with everyone who has lost a loved one from this virus,” Premier Stephen McNeil said in the release. “We stand together to grieve those who have died and to support those who are in mourning.”

As of Saturday, there were 865 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province. The 15 new cases were identified Friday.

“With the weekend upon us, I ask everyone to remain vigilant. Please stay home as much as possible, wash your hands and maintain physical distance,” Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer of health, said in the release. “Let’s be able to look back and know we did everything we could to stop this virus from hurting any more of our fellow Nova Scotians.”

The province said there are 10 licensed long-term care homes and unlicensed seniors’ facilities in Nova Scotia with cases of COVID-19, involving 191 residents, up from 189 reported in Friday’s update, and 90 staff, eight more than the last report.

Nova Scotia has 25,119 negative test results to date, 865 positives results and 22 deaths, the release said. Eleven people are in hospital, three of those in ICU. Recoveries now number 412.
