NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A COVID-19 outbreak is now over at a seniors care home in North Vancouver, which has been one of the hardest-hit facilities hit in the province.

The Lynn Valley Care Centre has had 76 confirmed cases among residents and staff and a total of 20 resident deaths.

On Tuesday, Vancouver Coastal Health confirmed with NEWS 1130, the outbreak at the facility has been “declared over,” and some restrictions have been lifted.

“Medical Health Officer declares a long-term care facility outbreak over when there have been two incubation periods, 28 days, since the last day any case in the facility was infectious, and without any new cases identified,” a release from VCH reads.

VCH says while the outbreak is over, the centre will continue to have the same preventive measures in place during the COVID-19 pandemic

This included providing staff with personal protective equipment, continuing visitor restrictions and maintaining the restrictions on staff working at multiple healthcare facilities as required under Public Health Orders.

The outbreak at the Lynn Valley Care Centre declared at the care home on Mar. 6 and was where the first case of the virus was recorded in B.C.
