COVID-19: Here’s the situation in Collingwood today

11 April 2020 /Posted byBarbara / 525

**

Update, 3:15 p.m.: The health unit has now confirmed there are four more confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Collingwood residents, which means there have been a total of seven cases confirmed locally.

**

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has not yet updated the list of lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County and Muskoka. The region’s medical officer of health, Dr. Charles Gardner, is scheduled to deliver an update via Facebook Live today at 4 p.m.

There remain three confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Collingwood residents. A man in his 50s is reported recovered, a man in his 30s and a man in his 50s are both self-isolating and both are reported cases of community transmission.

The province has reported an additional 411 cases and 31 deaths – the highest reported by the province in a 24-hour period – in this morning’s daily update. The total number of confirmed cases in the province is now 6,648, including 253 deaths, 2,858 recoveries, and 691 current hospitalizations.

Want to encourage an emergency services worker? Say it with a cookie. The Collingwood Girl Guides are looking for community donations for cases of cookies – which they couldn’t sell door-to-door this year. The cases, once covered by donations, are being dropped off at local emergency services.

Since the province’s prohibition on new construction, the area’s development industry has been impacted significantly. The president of the Georgian Triangle Development Institute says the COVID-19 is likely going to exacerbate the area’s attainable housing crisis, workforce capacity challenges, and backlog of needed municipal infrastructure projects.

Isolation is hard, no matter your home situation. If you need help, here are some resources providing mental health support.

CollingwoodToday has launched a new feature to recognize essential and frontline workers in Collingwood. CollingwoodToday would like your help in recognizing local essential workers from health care workers, to physicians, cashiers and delivery drivers. If you’d like to say thanks to someone you know, please send a photo, their name, their job title, and your words of thanks to erika@collingwoodtoday.ca. Please only send photos and information with permission.
