Lambton Public Health says 127 people locally have recovered from COVID-19.

That’s up by one from Wednesday night.

The health unit updated its website Thursday night to say there were no new cases reported and the total sits at 193.

Lambton Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade told Sue Storr on CHOK (103.9 FM, 1070 AM) that preventative measures are working.

“If you go on to our public health website, there’s a graph that shows it really nicely that everything is flattening out and we’re getting fewer and fewer cases every day,” said Ranade. “It’s still important to stay on top of it but it’s a nice reassuring sign that the things that we’ve been trying to do in the community have been working.”

According to the website, 39.4 per cent of the cases have been due to close contact of a case and 25.4 per cent have been outbreak-related.

To date, there have been 16 deaths. The two most recent victims were residents at Vision Nursing Home in Sarnia.

The long-term care home is still dealing with an outbreak after four residents and two staff members tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Lambton Public Health has received the results from 3,560 COVID-19 tests, of which 95 per cent have come back negative.

Friday morning, Bluewater Health reported there are seven people in hospital confirmed to have the virus, and 11 patients are suspected of having it with tests pending.
