35 people test positive for COVID-19 in Yolo County nursing home

Yolo County officials declared a COVID-19 outbreak Monday at a nursing home as 35 people, including residents and staff, tested positive. One person also died from the virus. Everybody who tested positive at the nursing home, which county officials are not naming at this time, has been isolated and is being monitored, Yolo County said in a release. Of the 35 people, 23 of them are residents and 12 are staff members. The person who died was a resident.“I am deeply saddened to learn about another COVID-19 death and an outbreak in a nursing home,” Yolo County Public Health Officer Dr. Ron Chapman said in a release. “Nursing homes are at very high risk for COVID-19 outbreaks. In most nursing home outbreaks, the virus is introduced from visitors and staff. Unfortunately, this means that people need to stay at home and not visit their loved ones.”Family members of residents at Stollwood Convalescent Hospital, which is part of St. John’s Village Senior Living Community in Woodland, said they were contacted by staff informing them of a COVID-19 outbreak. KCRA 3 reached out to the facility several times for a statement.Right now, the CEO’s voicemail refers people to call the county. There is a COVID-19 tab on the facility’s website, which includes a link to the county’s new release.”The staff over there is loving, they’re caring,” said Bill Lamb, whose mother-in-law is staying at St. John’s Village in the memory care program. “They care about the members there like it’s their own family.”Not all of the residents at this nursing home are Yolo County residents, officials said.
