16 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Barrie

There are 35 more cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the Simcoe-Muskoka region today, including nine cases related to long-term care outbreaks. 

In Barrie, there have been 16 more cases confirmed, seven of which are related to outbreaks. 

The outbreak-related cases include two women in their 70s, a woman in her 80s, a man and woman in their 60s, and a man and a woman in their 90s.

Currently, there are outbreaks declared in Barrie at Allandale Station Retirement Residence, Owen Hill Care Community, IOOF Seniors Homes, Woods Park Care Centre, and Whispering Pines Retirement Residence. 

There has also been a case reported in a man in his 90s from Tay, and that case is also related to a long-term care outbreak. The only facility in outbreak in Tay Township is Bayview Retirement Home, which is located in Waubaushene. 

The final outbreak-related case is a Bradford West Gwillimbury woman in her 90s. 

The outbreaks declared in Bradford include Bradford Valley Community Care and an unnamed group home. 

Dr. Charles Gardner, medical officer of health for the region, is due to provide an update and more details on the county’s seven long-term care facility outbreaks today at 3:30 p.m.

The other cases reported by Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit include (transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified): 

  • Barrie: one woman in her 20s (close contact), woman in her 40s, man in his 80s, man in his 20s, woman in her 30s, woman in her 20s (community-acquired), woman in her 70s, and a man in his 30s (close contact). Orillia: man in his 60s (community-acquired), man in his 80s (community-acquired), and a woman in her 50s

  • Severn: one woman in her 50s (close contact)

  • Bradford West Gwillimbury: male in his 10s (close contact), man in his 40s (community-acquired), woman in her 60s, man in his 40s (community-acquired), and a woman in her 50s (community-acquired)

  • Innisfil: woman in her 30s, man in his 50s (close contact), two men in their 20s (close contact)

  • Clearview: woman in her 20s (community-acquired)

  • Ramara: man in his 30s (community-acquired)

  • New Tecumseth: man in his 70s (close contact), woman in her 60s

There have been 318 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the region, which includes 166 recoveries. The health unit has reported 20 deaths related to COVID-19, nine of which were residents at Bradford Valley Community Care. There are eight people hospitalized in the region with COVID-19. 

Bradford West Gwillimbury (76 cases, 26 recoveries, 9 deaths, 2 in hospital), Barrie (102 cases, 52 recoveries, 3 deaths, 2 in hospital), New Tecumseth (21 cases, 16 recoveries, 1 in hospital), Orillia (16 cases, 8 recoveries, 2 deaths), Collingwood (8 cases, 7 recoveries), Innisfil (26 cases, 11 recoveries), Springwater (6 cases, 4 recoveries, 1 death), Midland (6 cases, 5 recoveries), Wasaga Beach (8 cases, 5 recoveries, 1 death), Oro-Medonte (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 2 deaths, 1 in hospital), Adjala-Tosorontio (7 cases, 4 recoveries, 1 in hospital), Clearview (4 cases, 2 recoveries, 1 in hospital), Essa (6 cases, 3 recoveries, 1 death), Ramara (3 cases, 2 recoveries), Tiny (2 cases, all recovered), Tay (1 case), Penetanguishene (2 cases, all recovered), and Severn (2 case) for a total of 301 cases in Simcoe County, including 166 recoveries.

There are also 17 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka, and 15 have recovered, one person from Muskoka Lakes has died.
