The operator of a west-end long-term care home confirms that 11 of its residents have died due to COVID-19.
Revera, the company that operates the home, confirmed the deaths in a written statement on its website.
“To date, we have received confirmation that 51 residents and 28 staff members of Carlingview Manor in Ottawa are confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19,” Dr. Rhonda Collins, Revera’s chief medical officer, wrote in a statement posted to Revera’s website. “The residents who have tested positive are in isolation. The staff members who tested positive are self-isolating at home.”
Eight of the 11 deaths have not yet been included in numbers released by Ottawa Public Health, which had three deaths listed at the facility, as of Saturday.
Revera says outbreak protocols are in place in the home, including having all staff wear full personal protective equipment while providing care for residents. All staff are required to wear surgical masks at all times, Revera said, and cleaning has been enhanced around the facility — particularly of high-touch surfaces like handrails and doors.
